Job Description As part of the Fiber-Optics (FO) development engineering team you will have responsibility for designing and developing high-reliability hermetic photonic modules for challenging environments, primarily for Aerospace & Defense. Being part of our global R&D team, you will have the opportunity to interface and work with other FO development teams in the US and UK. You will work on exciting programs in high growth areas, such as high-energy lasers, communications and sensing on UAVs and satellites as well as sensing/LIDARs in harsh environments. Responsibilities Work collaboratively with mechanical and optical engineers to develop and qualify new opto-mechanical packages and processes for semiconductor lasers, detectors and other fiber-pigtailed hermetic components. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver robust designs and optimized processes to Manufacturing Engineering and Product Engineering with full understanding of product performance, material implications and Design for Manufacturing. Support the Manufacturing Center engineering teams in transferring new products into production. Communicate results to all stakeholders, write process documentation. Use NPI and engineering change processes, to appropriately document development and manufacturing requirements. Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence Provide guidance on future program opportunities Support the marketing of G&H by providing papers from the development engineering team of material to peers, customers and review boards The responsibilities of this position will involve having access to items and technical data that may be controlled under U.S. export laws and regulations (\"U.S. Export Control Laws\"), including but not limited to the Export Administration Regulations (\"EAR\") and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (\"ITAR\"). In order to comply with the U.S. Export Control Laws, and in conjunction with the review of candidates for those positions within G&H that may present access to export-controlled technical data, G&H must assess whether candidates are \"U.S. persons\" as defined under the EAR (15 C.F.R. You must be a US permanent resident (Green Card holder) or a US citizen. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE MS or PhD in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering is required. Knowledge of metallurgy as applied to soldering and welding processes is required Experience in thermal modeling, FEA and stress analysis is desirable Industrial experience in developing opto-electronic devices in fiber-pigtailed modules is a plus Technical knowledge of opto-electronic devices, semiconductor lasers, fiber-optics is a plus.
